| Leaf |

There is a small tree outside our house. Despite all the snow and wind this winter, there was one leaf that was still on in. I kept meaning to go take a picture of it. It fell off today. |

| My cat is ill, and I am nuts |
[Feb. 12th, 2009|05:04 am] |
One of our cats is sick. He hasn't quite been himself for about a little while now. His appetite has dropped, he isn't really drinking, and for the past few days he's been spending nearly all of his time in the bedroom. (He spent nearly 12 hours in the bedroom closet yesterday without moving from his chosen spot.) This all happened just after he had runny eyes for nearly a week.

The neat thing is that it hadn't snowed the night before, so this was either from random flurries, or it's just plain old frost. (I didn't realize frost formed like that.) |

It's been around for a while, but I watched it again recently and figured it was worth sharing for those who haven't seen it.
Enjoy!

| Canadian weather |
[Dec. 16th, 2008|01:07 pm] |
One of the strange things (among many) about moving from the U.S. to Canada is getting used to metric weather. While there are some easy formulas to estimate temperature, I haven't really remembered some of them. Luckily, my dad sent me this handy conversion chart this morning. I figured I would share it with y'all.
The Official Canadian Temperature Conversion Chart 50° Fahrenheit (10° C) Californians shiver uncontrollably. Canadians plant gardens. 35° Fahrenheit (1.6° C) Italian Cars won't start Canadians drive with the windows down 32° Fahrenheit (0 ° C) American water freezes Canadian water gets thicker. 0° Fahrenheit (-17.9° C) New York City landlords finally turn on the heat. Canadians have the last cookout of the season. -60° Fahrenheit (-51° C) Mt.St. Helens freezes. Canadian Girl Guides sell cookies door-to-door. -100° Fahrenheit (-73° C) Santa Claus abandons the North Pole. Canadians pull down their ear flaps. -173° Fahrenheit (-114° C) Ethyl alcohol Freezes. Canadians get frustrated when they can't thaw the keg
-460° Fahrenheit (-273° C) Absolute zero; all atomic motion stops. Canadians start saying "cold, eh?" -500° Fahrenheit (-295° C) Hell freezes over. The Toronto Maple Leafs win the Stanley Cup |

| SNOW!!! |
[Nov. 17th, 2008|06:14 pm] |

OK, so it isn't a lot of snow, but I've been very excited about my first Canadian winter, and this was a nice taste. Judging by the reactions I've gotten from most people here, I don't expect to be excited by snow for long, but I'm glad to know that several other Americans up here feel the same way I do.
This was a fun weekend. autobot78 and I went to Toronto Friday night for a party at sithion's place. It was the most social I have been since moving here, and it was nice meeting some new people. Back in Philly, I was used to going out a lot and spent a lot of time hanging out with friends. Here, I've been significantly less social, mostly because I don't know a whole lot of people in Cambridge yet. I'm sure getting a job will help that situation, but the party Friday night was a needed event.
Saturday night autobot78 and I went with our friend Jeff to see a minor league hockey game. We saw the Guelph Storm play the Kitchener Rangers. It was a lot of fun, and some of the players are fun to look at, though most of them are more cute in the way that a puppy is cute. Still, I look forward to seeing more OHL games.
Hope all is well with everyone. Belated Happy Birthday wishes to bullneck. Sorry I missed the actual day buddy, but I didn't know it was your b-day until I saw the post by pauliebearsf. Hope it was an awesome day! |

Dear Governor Palin,
On behalf of Barack Obama supporters everywhere, thank you. Were it not for you, and your unique brand of maverickiness, this may not have been possible. May your journey home to Alaska be a safe one. Please give our regards to Vladimir Putin.
With warmest wishes,

| WAY TO GO PHILLIES!!! |
[Oct. 29th, 2008|11:06 pm] |
I'm convinced that the Philly curse was lifted because I left. It's tough sitting here after moving just over 3 weeks ago knowing that Philadelphia is probably one of the phunnest places to be right now.

| need some thoughts for starting a business |
[Oct. 17th, 2008|01:33 am] |
Hi y'all,
Most of you know that I moved to Canada last week (finally) to be with my absolutely wonderful husband autobot78. Mike was on vacation from the time I got here last Monday until Wednesday of this week. It's nice to finally be together every day without worrying about when the other is going home. We had decided that my job search would wait while he was on vacation. I'll admit there was some passive browsing of job sites, but nothing serious. The downtime was nice, and I have an awesome weekend planned with Mikey, sithion, and our friend Jeff to go see Kathy Griffin in Detroit. But after this weekend, the downtime has to go.
Some of you may know that prior to my last job, I worked as a photojournalist for about 4 years. I'm hoping to use my photo background to start my own photo studio. I know some of you have some self-employment experience, and I'm wondering if you have any advice. I could certainly use some. I'm going to be gathering a wedding portfolio together for a website, I got my domain name, and I know how to take pictures. I will need to make a minimal investment in equipment to supplement what I have, but I think I can do that fairly soon. Photography ideas, financing insights, marketing tip, anything you may have to offer will be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys! |
